With a makeshift leaf-boat Speck saves a young mouse caught in a storm flooded river. With the young mouse warm and safe in the Brownie's care, Wigrock fetches Brownie Bice who understands his language. The young one admits he wandered too far and against his Mother's wishes. That night by lantern light, Speck takes a message to Mother Mouse that her wee one is safe.
